Cornelius Rinne was born on the 5th of December 1955 in Hannover. At the age of 14, he received private drawing and painting lessons. In 1980 he completed his studies of communication design at the University of applied sience in Hannover with a diploma. Afterwords he studied contemporary arts, also at the University of applied sience in Hannover.

curiculum vitae:

Intensive exchange with artists such as Richard Oelze accompanied and complemented the study. Oelze asked for that Cornelius Rinne, as deputy for all artists, would come to his funeral. This please of cause he came back. Oelze also was the one who drew his attention to the work of Joseph Beuys. Thus, in the course of the "free international University", he took part in a free study group for art at the studio of Joseph Beuys at the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf in 1981/82.

Threw out the uncertainties about the universality of the term art, he defined this, in 1983, as follows:

"Art are these storys a man tells in a self-invited language."

In the wake of his "10 Theses on Art", he formulated the sentence in 2009 as follows:

"Art is the processes that a person documents in a self-invited language."

This sentence has been published in various places. Thus it came to a certain generality.

After several exhibitions in the 80s, Rinne turned his public workfield into that as an illustrator and designer. From 1983 onwards, he taught courses for 20 years. In addition to general characterizations, figur-drawing was his main focus.

He refused, at this time, to publicly display his free, affirmative works, cause he could not claim to the art market and his work could not be brought into harmony with it for him. In this time, however, he created various open creative cycles.

From 2005 he intensified the art theory work and began to exhibit again. Amongst others he exhibited at the Kunstverein (artsociety) Heddesheim and at the Zandvoort Museum. Gallery exhibitions in cities like Cologne and other European countries has been also held.

In 2008 he became a member of the artists' group "spursuche". For this group he formulated "10 theses on art" and a group manifesto. In 2010 he left the group and the group was dissolved afterwords.

He lives and works in Bielefeld.
